Enter new 2025 European Prize for Women Innovators
|
Innovators Mag | 01/07/2024 | Europe - Led by the European Innovation Council (EIC) and European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), the annual prize ‘celebrates the outstanding achievements of women entrepreneurs driving positive change for people and the planet through their innovative ventures’. There are prizes available across three categories: EIC Women Innovators, with three prizes up for grabs of: €100k, €70k and €50k; EIC Rising Innovators, offering: €50k, €30k and €20k; and EIT Women Leadership, again breaking down: €50k, €30k and €20k.

A European Sovereignty Fund Investing in Europe’s - Future and Security
|
European Parliament | 01/07/2024 | Europe - The European Sovereignty Fund (EUSF) should invest in Europe’s future by investing indirectly in start-ups and scale-ups via the existing Fund of the European Innovation Council (EIC). This would be concrete step to advance the aims of the recently agreed Strategic Technologies for Europe Platform (STEP). The EUSF could also invest in security of supply by acquiring and managing strategic stockpiles of critical raw materials.

A unified digital Health ecosystem, with a budget of 19.5 million euros, will be created in Europe

BusinessNews | 02/07/2024 | Macedonia - The Region of Central Macedonia will also participate in the project with a budget of 1,495,983.25 euros (50% funded by the European Union and 50% by the "Central Macedonia 2021-2027" Program). The project was approved after submitting a proposal to an invitation from the European Commission and more specifically the European Innovation Council.

Lithuanians develop solutions for DNA-based information storage technology
|
L24 | 02/07/2024 | Lithuania - A new field of science – DNA data storage – is being developed in Lithuania. Genomika company together with Kaunas University of Technology and other partners, aims to develop an autonomous solution for archiving data in DNA structures. The total value of the project is more than EUR 5 million. The project is funded by the EIC Pathfinder.

Estonian BioTech marvel GeneCode secures funding to develop life-changing treatments
|
Estonian Investment Agency | 01/07/2024 | Estonia - Estonian pharmaceutical development company GeneCode has received a €1,6M grant from Enterprise Estonia to develop a new treatment for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), retinitis pigmentosa (RP), and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). This is not the first time GeneCode has attracted such financing for novel research. The company has been recognised for its earlier development work with a €16 million grant and equity option from the European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator program.

Poland wants more bottom-up calls and better tools for Widening countries in FP10
|
Science|Business | 03/07/2024 | Poland - IZTECH, a Polish non-profit organisation, wants to see more support for SMEs. For example, FP10 could introduce calls where the participation of SMEs is required, and a certain share of the budget is allocated to them. In addition, the process of applying for European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator funding needs to be simplified.

Dead leaves transformed into paper: the Ukrainian startup founded by a 17-year-old who fled the war

La Sentinella | 04/07/2024 | Italy - Releaf Paper has developed next-generation technology for transforming fallen leaves into sustainable paper products without the use of chemicals and reducing CO2 emissions by 78%. The startup is among the finalists of the Young Inventors Award at the European Inventor Award. The winner on July 9th. In 2022 Releaf Paper won the EIC Accelerator.

AI Chip developer Axelera raised $68 million, including from Samsung / Servernews
|
Espanol News | 01/07/2023 | The Netherlands - Dutch AI startup Axelera AI BV, which produces AI accelerators for inference, announced that it has raised $68 million to expand its business. According to Silicon Angle data , in total, the total financing reached 120 million dollars. Key investors participating in the Series B round include Invest-NL Deep Tech Fund, the European Innovation Council Fund, the Innovation Industries Strategic Partners Fund and the Samsung Catalyst Fund. Previous investors also participated, including Verve Ventures, Innovation Industries, Fractionelera and Italian sovereign wealth fund CDP Venture Capital SGR.

UroMems raises 44 million euros to finance clinical trials of its urinary implant

Le Journal des Entreprises | 02/07/2024 | France - The Grenoble medtech company, which is developing an implant intended to treat urinary incontinence, has raised 44 million euros from its historic investors, led by Crédit Mutuel Innovation and the European Innovation Council. This new financing was led by Crédit Mutuel Innovation joined by the European Innovation Council as well as by investors historical Wellington Partners, Bpifrance, Supernova Invest, Hil-Invent, b-to-v Partners and Financière Arbevel.

The Spanish Biotech Sector Breaks Records for Financing and Investment in R&D

Born2Invest | 02/07/2024 | Spain - 96% of the biotech companies are SMEs or micro-SMEs, contributing minimally to the Spanish biotech sector revenues. Large firms, though only 4.1%, account for 37.9% of revenues. Recent private financing surged 37% to €228 million, supporting growth. Arthex Biotech was supported by the CDTI Innvierte instrument and by the EIC Fund.

Science|Business | 04/07/2024 | Europe - The European Innovation Council (EIC) needs independence from the European Commission if it is to succeed in its mission of boosting Europe’s innovation potential, says former programme Iordanis Arzimanoglou. Arzimanoglou spent the last four years at the EIC, setting the strategic direction for the council’s work in health and biotech. As the first field-specific programme manager at the agency, he also set out the blueprint for the role.
