OVERVIEW | Integrated kits for building renovation

This method is mainly suitable for deep renovation operations. Insulation and additional layers can be superimposed to the outside of the pre-existing façade thereby improving the thermal envelope, with the substitution of windows, the integration of shading systems, the installation of mechanical ventilation systems, and the installation of photovoltaic or solar thermal modules in the façade.

The crest of the Renovation Wave: a toolkit to decarbonise the European building stock

On 14 October 2020, the European Commission launched the new Renovation Wave initiative under the EU Green Deal, aiming to rally popular support behind plans to cut polluting emissions from buildings and to reduce energy bills. Three-quarters of Europe’s buildings are energy-inefficient by modern standards, and many are heated using fossil fuels.

Renovation of a six-storey office building in Saint-Étienne, France

The French Atelier Architecture Rivat, part of the Architecte Associé: atelier des vergers, designed the renovations for an office building originally constructed in masonry. In 2017, the renovation work was completed on the site which is located in the Rhône-Alpes region, in the suburbs of the town of Saint-Étienne, in a wooded area near Villeboeuf.
