BUILD UP

An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) is an instrument that contributes to the improvement of a building’s overall performance in a transparent and comparable way across Europe. EPCs were first introduced under the EPBD in 2002. In 2010 the EPBD was recast, adding a set of new requirements to improve the quality, usability and public acceptance of EPCs.

Every month, BUILD UP highlights publications covering a specific topic. April’s Topic of the Month is ‘Energy efficiency and integration of renewable energy sources in buildings’. Expert Talks is a new initiative from BUILD UP. Experts from all around Europe covering the field of energy efficiency in buildings from different perspectives will share their views, experience and expertise with BUILD UP’s audience in the form of face-to-face interviews. The European Executive Director at International Living Future Institute, Carlo Battisti, is the second expert to be interviewed.

Around EUR 64 million of EU funding is now available for energy efficiency innovation and market uptake projects. The deadline for applications is 10 September 2020. The call is managed by the Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises of the European Commission (EASME).

QualDeEPC aims to enhance (1) the quality and cross-EU convergence of Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) schemes, and (2) the link between EPCs and deep renovation. X-tendo will support public authorities to transition to next-generation energy performance certification (EPC) schemes, including improved compliance, reliability, usability and convergence. The EU project "RenoBooster", under the lead of the City of Vienna, aims at developing new advisory and funding services for house refurbishments in Vienna. A "one-stop-shop" should bundle the offers and thus simplify, accelerate and improve renovations. Vienna is therefore one of the first European cities and regions to develop such a service.

This webinar provided an overview of WHY the EPB standards came into being to support the implementation of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, HOW the EPB standards are meant to facilitate the EU-wide transition to a sustainable built environment and WHAT online information resources are available to all building sector stakeholders.

The DGNB platform showcases pre-certified and certified projects for certification by the DGNB, effectively acting as a repository of best practices. They can be sorted by country, year of construction, award within the certification, etc.

The purpose of the calculator is to build an energy pathway that hits the 80 % CO2 emission reduction target. As you get closer to achieving this the arrow will move to the right. The calculator models what is thought to be physically and technically possible in forty-two different sectors.
