Current status of energy performance certification in Europe

An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) is an instrument that contributes to the improvement of a building’s overall performance in a transparent and comparable way across Europe. EPCs were first introduced under the EPBD in 2002. In 2010 the EPBD was recast, adding a set of new requirements to improve the quality, usability and public acceptance of EPCs.

The 2020 call for energy efficiency is now open!

Around EUR 64 million of EU funding is now available for energy efficiency innovation and market uptake projects. The deadline for applications is 10 September 2020. The call is managed by the Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises of the European Commission (EASME).

The H2020 project X-tendo kicks off: Towards the next generation of Energy Performance Certificates thanks to a modular, innovative toolbox

X-tendo promotes systems to create better, more advanced, more useful and more engaging EPCs. As such, the X-tendo toolbox will increase trust in energy performance assessment and certification that will likely result in more EPCs issues, on both a voluntary and mandatory basis.

QualDeEPC project

QualDeEPC aims to enhance (1) the quality and cross-EU convergence of Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) schemes, and (2) the link between EPCs and deep renovation. The project will work on the EU-wide convergence of building assessment and the issuance, design, and use of quality-enhanced EPCs as well as their recommendations for building renovation.

X-tendo project

X-tendo will support public authorities to transition to next-generation energy performance certification (EPC) schemes, including improved compliance, reliability, usability and convergence. The key output of the project will be the X-tendo toolbox, a freely available online knowledge hub that will be continued beyond the project’s duration.

RenoBooster project

The EU project "RenoBooster", under the lead of the City of Vienna, aims at developing new advisory and funding services for house refurbishments in Vienna. A "one-stop-shop" should bundle the offers and thus simplify, accelerate and improve renovations. Vienna is therefore one of the first European cities and regions to develop such a service.
