Innovation Kitchen: EIC Accelerator pilot in numbers
|
The EIC Accelerator pilot – previously known as the SME Instrument – carefully selects the best innovators in Europe and bridges the critical investment gap in early-stage innovation, making the companies an ideal investment opportunity for follow-up investment from private entities. The 2019 edition of the Innovation Kitchen report presents the portfolio of successful companies emerging from Europe’s most wanted innovation funding programme for small businesses.

108 new innovative EIC projects selected for funding
|
108 innovative projects will get support from the European Innovation Council (EIC) pilot to bring their innovations faster onto the market. The total amount to be distributed to the projects under the EIC Accelerator and the Fast Track to Innovation strands of the EIC pilot is €210.216 million. Each project will receive between €0.5 and €3 million. With this funding and extra business acceleration support, innovative companies will be able to finance their close-to-market innovation activities and get on the market faster.

Virtual e-pitches link chemicals sector companies with top investors
|
On 18 September, six companies in the chemicals industry supported by the European Innovation Council (EIC) pilot, pitched their innovative ideas digitally to a number of investors during the first e-pitching session of the year. The jury members were top investors in the chemical sector: Solvay, DOW, EVONIK and BASF.
The SMEs pitching were: Adbiocomposites, Pewas, SilicoLife, Ray Technique, Gr3n Recycling and RadiSurf.

EIC funded urban farming company Infarm raises € 88 million in series B
|
|
EIC pilot-funded Infarm has raised €88 million from Atomico in a series B funding round. The company makes vertical urban farms where plants are grown efficiently and sustainably, directly at the point of sale. The vertical farms are modulable and contain a whole ecosystem for specific plants (water, temperature and lighting). Thanks to sensors, the performance of the farms are remotely controlled for optimal quality. Infamr received close to €2 million from the European Innovation Council (EIC) pilot and raised €20 million in a series A round from Balderton.

HappyOrNot gets extra 25 million dollars in private investment
|

Finnish innovator HappyOrNot is the company behind the smiley faces on the customer feedback satisfaction terminals that in a very short time have become part of our customer landscape. This company that has received funding from the European Innovation Council (EIC) pilot has recently secured 25 million dollars in a series A funding round, led by Verdane.

|
|
Artificial intelligence translation platform Unbabel has hit a record fundraising round with 60 million dollars. The company will be able to extend its services to more languages and offer automated translations to clients across the globe.

|
|
European Innovation Council pilot-funded company Angular Velocity Oy is participating in the Athletics World Championships in Doha with the technology SPECTO Athletics. The 2019 World Championships will see a quantum leap in graphic production and analysis, using the combined expertise of Seiko, Hawkeye, Angular Velocity and Deltatre.
