What is your role on the European Digital Education Hub?

The Hub is an overarching action of the European Commission’s Digital Education Action Plan 2021-2027. I work as a project manager for the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) and as such, my main responsibility is to support our partners in the implementation of the Hub’s activities, and to ensure that the activities contribute to the goals of the Action Plan to improve cooperation and knowledge exchange on digital education at EU level.

What is your experience in digital education?

My first experience in digital education was at UNESCO, where I was doing an internship for the Dutch delegation at the time COVID-19 broke out. I was able to experience first-hand the response of different countries and organizations, and most importantly, to learn about the opportunities and challenges of digital education at this time.

Which topic on digital education are you most invested in?

I am still learning a lot about digital education and working for the Hub has taught me a lot about various topics – digital education in times of crises is still one of my main interests. The output of our Squad on this topic, tackling all sorts of crises from climate change to the war in Ukraine to pandemics expanded my knowledge on this topic a lot. Other than that, I want to learn more about equality and inclusion in digital education, and I look forward to the Hub activities that are in the works to address this theme in the near future!

What is your vision for the Hub?

I envision the Hub as a space where everyone focusing on digital education can come together, whether you are a policymaker, a researcher or a teacher. The Hub will help strengthen links between policy and practice and not only will we continue to organize engaging activities; we will see the members share and set up initiatives as well, creating a true community!

Tell us your biggest highlight working on the Hub so far.

In October 2022, I participated in our Brussels workshop Digital Education in Times of Crises, when I had just started working on the project. Not only was the topic extremely interesting to me, but also it was an opportunity to meet our colleagues from partner organisations and members of the Hub. By participating in the discussions and brainstorm sessions, I was able to experience precisely what the Hub is all about – I couldn’t have asked for a better introduction!
