Last month, in a nutshell

Welcome to the March issue of our newsletter. Here are this month’s EU climate news highlights.

Europe is advancing towards a sustainable future with renewables particularly wind and hydropower  accounting for nearly half of the EU’s net electricity in 2024. The Innovation Fund is boosting the EU’s decarbonisation efforts even further, financing 77 clean tech projects and attracting 61 funding bids for renewable hydrogen projects. To boost the competitiveness of EU carmakers while curbing emissions, the European Commission has recently launched an Action Plan to drive innovation and accelerate the uptake of clean technologies within the automotive sector.

Facing the harsh reality of climate change, the EU Preparedness Union Strategy presented several actions to help Member States manage risks and embed resilience in their policies. As Europe experiences more frequent extreme weather events such as heatwaves, local-level initiatives like the Covenant of Mayors 'Cities Refresh' campaign are empowering urban areas to build climate resilience on the ground.

Before you go, let’s celebrate the success of the European Climate Pact’s annual event, which brought together more than 500 people in Brussels to connect, reflect and get inspired to shape climate solutions across Europe.
