New Opportunities for Climate Adaptation Projects with €124m Available for EU Mission
|
On 17 April 2024, the Commission amended the 2023-24 Work Programme of Horizon Europe to mobilise previously unallocated Horizon Europe funding to increase the 2024 budget by nearly €1.4 billion to €7.3 billion.

This amendment includes an investment of nearly €650 million in the EU Missions to enable the implementation of the Communication “EU Missions Two Years On: Assessment of Progress and Way Forward”, adopted on 19 July 2023. For the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change, €124 million has been made available.
|
|

Online EU Adaptation Community Moving to Futurium
|
We are excited to announce that the online EU Adaptation Community is moving! The online community will now be hosted on Futurium, a European Commission platform dedicated to discussions on EU policies. This change comes with several benefits that we believe will enhance your experience and participation within our community:

- Enhanced User Experience: Designed to provide a more intuitive and user-friendly interface, making it easier for you to navigate, access resources, and engage with other members.
- Improved Features: New features include the Chat Room and a resource and outputs library where members can share documents and other material for collaboration and knowledge sharing.
- Available in your language: We are working to ensure content is available in all official EU languages. Currently, it is available in English, French, German, Polish, Portuguese and Spanish, and will be rolled out in other languages shortly.

Revamped Regional Adaptation Support Tool Coming 8 May
|
The new version of the Regional Adaptation Support Tool (RAST) is set to launch on the 8th May on the Mission Portal. It assists local and regional authorities in navigating climate change adaptation strategies and plans, from planning to implementation. With user-friendly guidance, RAST covers six key steps of the adaptation policy cycle:
- Preparing the ground for adaptation.
- Assessing climate change risks and vulnerabilities.
- Identifying adaptation options.
- Assessing and selecting adaptation options.
- Implementing adaptation policies and actions.
- Monitoring, evaluation and learning.

RAST incorporates practical examples and a curated list of resources to enrich understanding and support decision-making. Stay tuned for ongoing improvements to RAST, with new releases in the coming months. Explore the latest version of RAST here.

Stay tuned for the launch of the new Adaptation Dashboard
|
An updated version of the Adaptation Dashboard is set to launch on the 8th May on the Mission Portal. The dashboard offers easy access to a wealth of essential data for regions and local authorities. It features indicators on hazards, impacts, vulnerabilities, and exposure sourced from Copernicus services (C3S, CLMS), the Joint Research Centre, and more.

|
The latest updates include new indicators such as a Vulnerability Index, Soil Sealing and the Bathing Water Quality, alongside improved user interface and data visualisation. Once live, you can share your feedback and help us tailor this dashboard to your needs with an online survey to shape future enhancements.

Feedback opportunity on Horizon Europe Work Programme 2025
|
On 15 April, the European Commission launched an opportunity to feedback on the Horizon Europe Work Programme 2025.
This survey will allow citizens to be able to submit their feedback and to contribute to co-designing the main work programme for 2025. The feedback is being collected at the level of the ‘Destinations’ or Missions, corresponding to the six Horizon Europe clusters, research infrastructures, European innovation ecosystems, the five EU Missions and cross-cutting activities and the New European Bauhaus facility.

Respondents will be able to provide feedback for one or multiple Destinations and/or Missions, according to what is most relevant to them.

EU Sparks for Climate: Citizens Hackathon Championship
|
EU Sparks for Climate: Citizens Hackathon Championship is a virtual competition for knowledge validation and creation of technological and social innovation solutions that respond to challenges proposed by the European citizens.
|
|
|
|
It aims to support two of the Missions launched by the European Commission: the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change and the EU Mission on Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities. The Championship unfolds in three stages: virtual local hackathons hosted by 22 EU locations, followed by training modules and coaching activities for the winning teams of these local hackathons, culminating in an EU final where teams can vie for prizes in three categories: Best Climate Neutral and Smart Cities Solution, Best Adaptation to Climate Change Solution and Best Cross-Cutting Solution.

LIFE Calls for Proposals of a Share of EUR 571 million Funding
|
As the EU’s flagship initiative for funding environmental and climate actions, the LIFE Programme is your opportunity to turn your ideas into reality. If your project proposal is successful, you’ll be in for a share of the €571 million available this year.
|
|
|
|
So, who can apply? The programme is particularly interested to hear from businesses, academic institutions, national, regional, and local governments, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working in the EU on nature conservation, environmental protection, climate change or the clean energy transition. LIFE supports innovative, impactful projects with demonstrable impacts and best practices which can be replicated and scaled up elsewhere in Europe.
