My world. My action. Our planet.

After last month’s call for Ambassadors, we are now looking for partner organisations to join the Climate Pact – you can find the details below. We are also just one day away from the COP28 in Dubai, where many members of the Climate Pact will be attending or tuning in online to keep up to date with the climate negotiations.

You’ll also find:

• '10 points for Dubai' – the official message from the EU to the United Nations that Pact Ambassadors helped shape at the recent European Climate Stocktake

• Useful links to help you follow along with the COP28

• A recap of an innovative event organised by the Climate Pact and TEDxBrussels

Climate Pact Ambassadors make their voices heard at the European Climate Stocktake

‘It wasn’t technical, it wasn’t political. It was just human to human being.’
– Udo Engelhardt.

Climate Pact Ambassadors Udo Engelhardt and Nicoleta Talpes at European Climate Stocktake

On 27 October, Pact Ambassadors Nicoleta Talpes and Udo Engelhardt took to the stage at the European Climate Stocktake to share the views of 100 fellow Ambassadors on climate action in the European Union. Their contributions have since been included in '10 points for Dubai', an official message from the EU to the UNFCC ahead of the COP28. A full report of the Ambassador feedback can be found here and you can read the report from the European Climate Stocktake event here.

Climate Pact teams up with TEDxBrussels

On 14 November, the European Climate Pact and TEDxBrussels came together to shine a light on climate change at the Countdown 2023 event. In the amazing setting of the Dinosaur Gallery in Brussels’ Museum of Natural Sciences, participants were encouraged to devise climate solutions and commitments – both in terms of ‘footprint actions’ (reducing emissions) and ‘handshake actions’ (spreading the word).

Climate Pact Ambassador from Belgium Cinzia De Marzo played a key role in organising the event. Impressed by the high level of participants’ awareness, Cinzia told us ‘the key values of the European Climate Pact and its main topics, such as green spaces, skills, mobility, and buildings, were very much present in the discussions’.

Climate Pact leads tree-planting campaign after Zagreb storm

On 11 November, The Society for the Design of Sustainable Development (DOOR) – the Pact’s Country Coordinator in Croatia – organised a tree-planting campaign in Maksimir Park, the biggest park in the Croatian capital.

The campaign was organised in the aftermath of the unprecedented storm that hit Zagreb in July 2023, damaging more than 10,000 trees. The organisers were supported by Greenpeace Croatia, climate scientists, Cleaning Bears (Čisteći Medvjedići), and the network Meter for a Better Climate (mreža Metar do bolje klime). DOOR gave a live interview on the action on Croatian National Television.

Cooling the planet with plants in 20 years

Climate Pact Ambassador and consultant from The Netherlands, Rob de Laet, is passionate about studying and spreading the word about the power of plants, more specifically forests. His proposal ‘Choose life, let’s cool climate chaos’ has been shared hundreds of times on social media. It focuses on explaining climate change and how to reverse it with nature-based solutions.

‘While carbon gets all the attention, another factor is largely overlooked – water. Once we understand the full force of plants and the water cycle, we can confront the climate crisis with a whole new set of measures.’

Meet the community

Climate Pact Ambassador Charalampos Harry Tsiamitas says members of his community in Thessaly, Greece, know the devastating consequences of the climate crisis all too well.

They were left without running water, electricity, roads or access to schools and medical supplies for weeks following storm Daniel, with many losing loved ones, houses and businesses in the flood’s ‘muddy waters’.

‘The climate crisis is here and we’re facing the consequences, but I feel that there is hope and that we are witnessing the wind of change. After all, we need to prepare a better world for us and for the next generation.’

Did you know...

It takes an estimated 2,700 litres of fresh water to make a single cotton t-shirt? That’s enough to meet one person’s drinking needs for 2.5 years.
