This report presents the results of the criticality assessment of 87 raw materials for the EU based on the methodology developed in 2017. The report builds upon the work carried out in the previous assessments.
The report takes into account feedback gathered from the previous and 2023 exercises and establishes the technical basis for the updated list of critical raw materials for the EU.
The objectives of this assessment were to:
- Assess the criticality of a selection of raw materials following the EC quantitative criticality methodology.
- Analyse the production, key trends, trade flows and barriers of the raw materials with the aim to identify potential bottlenecks by assessing extraction and processing stages17 and supply risks throughout the value chain.
- Used data and projections are based on the reference period of the last 5 years.
- Provide a list of data sources.
- Continue to improve the quality and availability of data.
- Analysis of a wider range of raw materials.
