The main novelty of the RESISTO project was the development of tools, suite of solutions, and platform able to handle physical, cyber, and combined cyber-physical threats and to take into account cascading effects.
Specifically, the main results of the project can be summarized as:
- The development of an innovative platform for optimized decision support to help managers of Communication CIs to guarantee improved business and asset continuity;
- The devising of an Integrated Risk and Resilience analysis and management tool for improved preparedness and prevention in the communication domain;
- A unique framework to assess the effects of adverse events on large infrastructure, suggesting also possible mitigation actions and eventually automatically implement some of these actions, exploiting network function virtualizations (NFV), software-defined networks (SDN), Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, and the future improvements leading to 5G networks;
- The experimental validation of the RESISTO platform, tools, and suite of services by relevant use cases (9 use cases involving 5 Telecom operators across Europe).
Through RESISTO, Communications Operators were able to implement a set of mitigation actions and countermeasures that significantly reduced the impact of negative events in terms of performance losses, social consequences and cascading effects, in particular by bouncing efficiently back to original and forward to operational states of operation.
The RESISTO solutions could deliver unprecedented cost-effective performances in a holistic technology framework.
