IN the House

CINEA's all staff assembly

Following the 2023 Staff Survey results, the draft Action Plan including 35 actions was presented at an all staff assembly on 3 September. All staff members had the opportunity to vote on their preferred actions. Colleagues who could not attend or did not vote during the meeting have until today to do so via Sli.do. Then, the draft action plan will be presented at the Management meeting of 10 September and shared with DG HR.

Value of the month: September

September is dedicated to Sustainability, defined in the CINEA Staff Core Values as ‘We are committed to environmental and social responsibility expressed through sustainable practices'. Join one of the events organised by the CINEA Green team and share your personal sustainability tips by hanging them on the wooden tree placed in the ground floor cafeteria.

Staff Committee Elections 2024

The elections for the next CINEA Staff Committee will be held on 21-22 October. A call for candidates has been launched with the deadline to apply set on 26 September. Check out the link below for more information on role of the Staff Committee, the elections and how to become a candidate.

Final call for CINEA Ekiden runners!

The fun relay marathon for teams of 6 runners in and around the King Baudouin Stadium is taking place next month, on Saturday 19 October. If you wish to join CINEA's team, fill in the EU Survey by 20 September.

Binders available for recycling/donation

If you wish to donate binders to your children’s school, there is a good number of them ready to be recycled in the wellbeing room on the ground floor. The binders will be available until Monday 30 September. This action is part of the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS).

Ensure you bank account details are up to date before November 2024

Due to upcoming changes of the accounting system, updating your bank account details will be difficult between 1 November 2024 and 1 February 2025. While bank account changes can typically be scheduled in advance, unforeseen circumstances may require urgent updates. Should such a situation arise, please notify PMO via the FilIP application.

Join the 7th edition of Kick Cancer charity run on Sunday 29 September in the Bois de la Cambre (Brussels) and raise funds for new treatments for children with cancer. CINEA at Shipbuilding, Machinery and Marine Technology Trade Fair

The world's leading exhibition for the maritime industry is taking place in Hamburg this week from 3 to 6 September. CINEA is involved in the joint Commission stand and is also organising a session featuring Horizon Transport maritime projects that are working towards the greening and decarbonisation of the waterborne sector.

10 years of insights on Maritime Spatial Planning

A new study examined 32 EMFF and EMFAF funded projects from 2014 to 2024 on Maritime Spatial Planning. The analysis aimed to reflect on the evolution of maritime spatial planning, identify challenges, and shed light on the best practices employed over the last decade.

LIFE yields tenfold return on environmental & climate investments

According to a Commission's review, the EU's flagship environmental protection scheme has not only enhanced the conservation status of 435 species but also reduced greenhouse gas emissions and nitrogen oxides (NOx) pollution. The EUR 3.46 billion invested over the seven years leading up to 2020 yielded a tenfold return on investment.

SEATECH: Taking inspiration from a dolphin's tail to cut carbon emissions

Global emissions from maritime transport are over a billion tonnes of CO2 per year. Inspired by the movement of dolphins through water, the Horizon Transport SeaTech project has developed a pair of innovative technologies that can significantly cut ship fuel consumption and therefore emissions.
