Building a Sustainable Blue Economy: Insights from the Black Sea CMA Stakeholder Conference
|
In a collaborative effort to foster a sustainable, modern, and competitive blue economy in the Black Sea region, the Black Sea Common Maritime Agenda Stakeholder Conference 2023 took place in Bucharest on 22-23 November. Organised under the auspices of the CMA Romanian coordination, alongside the Black Sea Assistance Mechanism and the European Commission, the event drew active participation from about 200 stakeholders.

EU Aquaculture Assistance Mechanism- Funding Opportunities
|
The EU financially supports the aquaculture sector with a wide range of funding programmes. The ultimate goal is to foster the implementation of the Commission’s "Strategic Guidelines for a more sustainable and competitive EU aquaculture for the period 2021-2030". Unlocking Funding Opportunities for Climate Adaptation Innovations with ARSINOE
|
ARSINOE is a Horizon 2020 project that aims to build an ecosystem for climate change adaptation solutions. Within the ARSINOE ecosystem, pathways to solutions are co-created and co-designed by stakeholders, who can then select either existing Climate Innovation Window technologies, or technologies by new providers (or a combination) to form an innovation package. Call for Scaling-up EU cultivation of algae and shellfish
|
The subject of this call for tenders is the development and testing of tools (software and maps) that will contribute to the assessment of the feasibility and the impact of scaling-up of EU cultivation of shellfish and algae. It seeks to improve previous project findings by studying how shellfish and algae cultivation interact with nutrient supply. This involves refining models and considering constraints like toxin absorption for a more thorough evaluation.

The objective of this call for proposals under the European Maritime Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF) is to facilitate the implementation of Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP) in the EU, including through the effective application of Directive 2014/89 establishing a framework for MSP. This topic is for the continuation of the Sustainable Blue Economy Partnership (SBEP)’s activities in 2023-2024. The second instalment of the partnership is expected to contribute to innovative governance and sound decision-making on policies for a climate-neutral, sustainable, and productive Blue Economy. It will see the continuation or addition of priority areas, activities and partners, including from additional countries, aligning national, regional and EU R&I priorities and bringing together science, industry, governance and society.

Algae and Climate
|
This research is based on an extensive examination of existing literature, a survey, and in-depth interviews to explore the potential of 10 microalgae and macroalgae production systems in meeting animal feed needs in the EU. It provides a comprehensive overview of the current understanding regarding biomass, nutritional yields, costs, and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
