The Future of Philanthropy and Blockchain
The past decade has produced an eruption of online philanthropy. The use of diverse digital channels to support movements, charities, and programs has given rise to easier and faster ways of donating. The 2018 Blackbaud Institute report on Charitable Giving showed a record high for online giving. According to Steve MacLaughlin, Blackbaud's Vice President of Data and Analytics and senior advisor to the Blackbaud Institute, it was the continuation of the longest sustained period of charitable giving growth since the last recession.
Notable donations in cryptocurrencies also made headlines, such as the staggering donation of over $100 million to Fidelity Charitable, $29 million to DonorsChoose, and let's not forget the $55 million donated to The Pineapple Fund (read about it in the fourth edition Newsflash!).
