The Hyperledger project

Hyperledger, or the Hyperledger project, is an umbrella project of open source blockchains and tools. In 2015, the Linux Foundation started the project and has since received contributions from many major IT companies around the world.

This project aims to develop a suite of stable frameworks, tools and libraries for enterprise-grade blockchain deployments. A particular focus is put on improving the performance and reliability of these systems to support the high number of transactions required by the major technological, financial and supply chain companies.

This project has a modular approach and integrates open protocols and standards for use-specific modules. These include different types of blockchains with their own consensus, storage solutions, identity services, access controls and smart contracts.

All these different modules are hosted by the Hyperledger Lab in the "Hyperledger Greenhouse" (from seed to fruition) until the code is ready for production.
