Before we head into 2021, let's take a look at the bigger picture. Our first item is a round-up of 2020. In this retrospective, we go over the most exciting digital European projects the Building Blocks have been involved in. We also see how the Building Blocks realise the Berlin Declaration on Digital Society and Value-based Digital Government.

In our latest success story, we consider the steel industry. In any commodity industry, every gain in efficiency is key for staying competitive. Thanks to CEF eDelivery, the EDI4Steel Consortium is giving the steel industry an extra edge with a solution for the automated exchange of important documents and data. This helps them cut costs and ensure operations run as smoothly as possible.

We also explore how the CEF Building Blocks can be used in combination to address big priorities of the EU, especially when COVID-19 is pressing more and more organisations to embrace digital transformation. Three different articles go into how the Building Blocks are making eGovernment a reality, helping SMEs develop new and innovative digital services and giving European cities the tools they need to become more sustainable.

Four new notified eID schemes in 2020

There are more possibilities than ever for citizens to use their national eIDs to identify themselves and access services across the EU. There are now 19 notified eID schemes, coming from 15 different Member States which can be used for cross-border identification thanks to the network of eIDAS nodes established by the eIDAS Regulation.

CEF Masterclass at the European Blockchain Convention

Over 100 participants actively contributed following an interactive and detailed presentation on the EBSI and were especially enthusiastic about the number of domain of applications and use cases mentioned.

Technical update

Release of CEF eIDAS-Node software v.2.5

This release is the first to be based on version 1.2 of the eIDAS technical specifications. It incorporates the feedback provided by Member States in response to the pre-release of the node software already shared.

CEF eDelivery: Delay in Domibus 4.2 FR

The final release of Domibus 4.2 sample implementation of the eDelivery Access Point, originally planned for 10 December 2020, has been briefly delayed. A new release date will be communicated as soon as possible.
