Welcome to the latest edition of the CEF Building Block Bulletin.

The Digital Innovation Challenge has announced the final winners! In first place, CleverBooks won a grand total of €50,000. Their platform leverages Augmented Reality technology to change education for the better throughout Europe. Our congratulations also go to second- and third-place runners-up, Latitudo40 and OpenContent, who won €20,000 and €10,000 respectively.

In this week's newsletter, we look at how the the CEF building blocks are laying the foundations for Smart Cities to flourish throughout Europe. Joao Rodrigues Frade, Head of Sector for the CEF building blocks, presented the Context Broker and Big Data Test Infrastructure (BDTI) at FIWARE's Smart Cities day, showing how they help different sectors and cities share and leverage the power of big open data. We also take you through all the different online services you can now access throughout Europe by identifying yourself electronically thanks to the eID building block.

Be sure not to miss the last joint Context Broker and BDTI webinar of the year on 24/11, summing up what these building blocks can do to help create Smart Cities. The eInvoicing Open Session on private sector and SME onboarding will also take place on 24/11.

The eArchiving webinar on the e-ARK web user interface guide, which was going to take place on 26/11, has been postponed.

The CEF building blocks at FIWARE Smart Cities day

At FIWARE's event, 'Towards a sustainable single market of smart city solutions', Joao Rodrigues Frade, Head of Sector for the CEF building blocks, spoke about how our open and reusable solutions are helping municipalities leverage on open data to create Smart Cities, and how these digital ecosystems can interconnect to create a truly digital future for Europe.

The winners of the Digital Innovation Challenge has been announced

On 17 November 2020 at the Hello Tomorrow Summit, CleverBooks, a solution for sustainable digital education, took first prize, winning €50,000! Latitudo40 came in second place, with a platform turning satellite imagery into geospatial information, and OpenContent came third for their solution to drive municipalities to join the Single Digital Gateway. We invite you to watch the recording of the event, and will be in touch with any future EU initiatives that might interest you.

Technical update
CEF eDelivery AS4 adds support for large files

eDelivery now has an additional optional feature, allowing users to exchange messages over 2GB through the 'Split and Join' protocol. For users who don't need to send larger messages, no update is required.

CEF eSignature Digital Signature Services (DSS): Introduction and best practices, 09/12

This webinar will explore the difference between validating electronic signatures made with ETSI standardised signature formats and validating a qualified status.
