Welcome to the latest edition of the CEF Building Blocks Bulletin.

The Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) eDelivery building block has reached a decisive landmark, as the International Organisation for Standardization (ISO) approves its secure message exchange protocol, AS4, as an international standard. Another landmark was reached in the area of trust and authentication services, as the eSignature team ran a successful pilot demonstrating how to implement Qualified Web Authentication Certificates, or QWACs. QWACs provide trusted information about the identity of the persons or legal entity behind a website, so users can browse with confidence.

In this edition, we look at how Digdir, the Norwegian Digitalisation Agency, has started using CEF Big Data Test Infrastructure. BDTI is the third CEF Building Block implemented by Digdir and helps various organisations in the value chain optimise public procurement.

In addition, recordings and presentations are now available for both the Digital Innovation Hubs webinar and the 2020-2 CEF Telecom Virtual Info Day.

ISO approves AS4 as an International Standard

The ISO (International Organisation for Standardization) approved AS4, the message exchange protocol underpinning the CEF eDelivery Building Block, as an International Standard.

Norwegian Digitalisation Agency uses Commission's Big Data tool to optimise public procurement

Digdir, the Norwegian Digitalisation Agency, is using the CEF big data tool, the Big Data Test Infrastructure (BDTI), to help optimise public procurement in Norway by analysing transactional data.

European Commission’s machine translation tool to use eDelivery

The Commission’s Directorate-General for Translation (DGT) has decided to use the CEF eDelivery building block to provide a highly secure means of using their machine translation tool, CEF eTranslation.

Commission runs a pilot project on Qualified Web Authentication Certificates (QWACs)

The CEF eSignature team ran a pilot demonstrating how to implement QWACs, which authenticate websites by providing trusted information about the identity of persons or legal entities behind a website, instilling trust online and making the internet a safer place for consumers.

Commission launches public consultation on the eIDAS Regulation

This public consultation will be open until 2 October 2020 and will take into account the latest technological and policy developments.

Recording of Digital Innovation Hubs webinar available

On 3 July 2020, the European Commission held a webinar to explore how they could collaborate with Digital Innovation Hubs to accelerate the digital transformation of the public sector in the EU, by disseminating free, reusable digital solutions.

Recording of 2020-2 CEF Telecom Virtual Info Day available

On 16 July 2020, the Innovation and Networks Executive Agency (INEA) held a Virtual Info Day on the second 2020 CEF Telecom call, which includes grant funding for projects using CEF eArchiving (€1 million) and Public Open Data (€3 million). The event gave advice on how to submit a strong proposal for grant funding.
