European Commission proposes a trusted and secure Digital Identity for all Europeans
On 3 June 2021, the Commission proposed a framework for a European Digital Identity, which will be available to all EU citizens, residents, and businesses in the EU. Citizens will be able to prove their identity and share electronic documents from their European Digital Identity wallets with the click of a button on their phone. They will also be able to access online services, in their place of residence and across borders, with their national digital identification, which will be recognised throughout Europe. A European Digital Identity will give citizens control of their own personal data and the security to trust data received from others, principles which are built into EBSI’s European self-sovereign identity framework (eSSIF).
