Bitcoin Pizza Day!

date:  27/05/2020

It has been a decade since Laszlo Hanyecz made the first ever (recorded) purchase using Bitcoin! On 22 May 2010, Hanyecz, a programmer, conducted an experiment to see whether bitcoin had any value. He offered 10 000 BTC via an online forum to anyone who could bring him two Papa John's pizzas. At the time, the value of those two pizzas was around $30. Fast-forward a decade later, and those two pizzas cost about €80 million.

The crypto space has come a long way in the last ten years and, despite its ups and downs, it is still going strong. In the course of a decade, the decentralised technology that began with bitcoin paved the way to a new economy that triggered the creation on an entire "bitcoin mining" industry around the world. What started as the basis of a cryptocurrency, blockchain technology is now discussed at institutions and corporations as a way to both be more transparent and increase trust between parties.
