On 14 July 2026, the STEP Team took part in an information event and technical workshop in Komotini, organised by Greek authorities and the Greek STEP National Contact Point. The event presented STEP priorities and supported preparations of the upcoming regional call, bringing together the European Commission, national and regional authorities, JASPERS, stakeholders and potential beneficiaries. Discussions covered STEP policy objectives, the design of the future call and practical guidelines on pipeline development, eligibility and regional priorities. On 25 June 2026, the STEP team presented the initiative’s latest features and results to around 100 members of EARTO. The discussion showed strong interest in the STEP Seal, its possible transition under the next MFF, and the future of EU funding for excellent projects. The EU STEPs up for defence! On 22 April 2025, the Commission proposed to extend STEP’s scope with a 4th sector covering all defence technologies, as part of a broader ReArm package. Negotiations in the European Parliament and the Council are expected to start soon to make this a reality. Learn more about the proposal and changes for STEP below.
