On 22 May, the National Contact Points for STEP will meet in Brussels to discuss the most pressing challenges and opportunities brought by the implementation of STEP on the ground. On 20 and 21 May, the Annual EU Budget Conference 2025 will take place in Brussels, hosted by Piotr Serafin, Commissioner in charge of EU Budget. President von der Leyen, European Parliament President Metsola, President of the European Investment Bank Calviño, and many more have already confirmed their presence. A thematic exchange on the ‘The future of EU competitiveness’ and a ‘Step-up’ session on 'Investing in innovation in the EU' are planned! The EU STEPs up for defence! On 22 April 2025, the Commission proposed to extend STEP’s scope with a 4th sector covering all defence technologies, as part of a broader ReArm package. Negotiations in the European Parliament and the Council are expected to start soon to make this a reality. Learn more about the proposal and changes for STEP below.
