Je používanie chirurgickej sieťky v urogynekologickej chirurgii dostatočne bezpečné?

Keďže sa chirurgická sieťka v urogynekologickej chirurgii používa čoraz viac, v súvislosti s jej používaním sa takisto zaznamenal rastúci počet nežiaducich účinkov, ako napríklad infekcia, poškodenie tkaniva, odhalenie sieťky, zmrštenie sieťky, bolesť a sexuálne poruchy.  Európska komisia z tohto dôvodu požiadala svoj nezávislý Vedecký výbor pre vznikajúce a novoidentifikované zdravotné riziká (SCENIHR), aby posúdil zdravotné riziká spojené s používaním chirurgickej sieťky.
