Antibiotic-resistant infections continue to increase at an alarming pace, and this poses a serious threat to human health. One of the cornerstones of the Commission action plan on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) is to improve the prudent use of antibiotics – and this in Europe and also world-wide.
We therefore support EU Member States in their efforts to inform the general public about the importance using antimicrobial agents prudently. The EU's new Ebola response coordinator Christos Stylianides said that Member States had done a fantastic job with various types of assistance and that "we now need to shift into high gear and make sure these elements work as a common European response".

The European Commission announced €24.4 million from the EU budget will fund urgently needed Ebola research. The funding will go to five projects, ranging from a large-scale clinical trial of a potential vaccine, to testing existing and novel compounds to treat Ebola.

The Maltese government wants to make life easier for coeliac patients and is considering the introduction of new schemes for accessing gluten free products, according to Parliamentary Secretary for Health Chris Fearne. About 1.2% of European adults have coeliac disease.

The Ministry of Health has issued the annual instructions about measures against the seasonal flu. Groups at risks are invited to have the flu vaccine.

This meeting, organised by the European Commission, will cover Ebola activities on the EU level, the current outbreak situation and how organisations can inform their target groups. It will also identify areas for EU support and possible joint actions.
