Organic farming is defined as a method of production where the greatest emphasis is placed on environmental protection, and the production avoids or greatly reduces the use of synthetic chemical inputs, such as fertilizers, pesticides, additives and medical products. Organic production includes livestock production, and the production of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and their use in animal feed is also prohibited. Organic farming differs from other methods of agricultural production in the application of regulated standards (production rules), mandatory control schemes and a specific marking scheme.
Organic statistics collect data on:
- Number of organic operators such as producers (agricultural holdings, aquaculture production units), processors, importers, exporters and other operators (wholesalers, retailers, etc.)
- Organic crop area under conversion and fully converted
- Organic crop production from fully converted area
- Number of organic livestock
- Volume of organic products of animal origin
- Volume of organic aquaculture production
- Number of operators processing products issued from organic farming (based on NACE classification)......and etc.

From 2020 onwards as well the data on organic production have also been enriched with data on yields.

The survey methodology and the data collection method ensure good coverage and accuracy of the data.

Data are expressed in: Number, hectares and tonnes

The aggregated data are obtained by summarizing the individual data by types of agricultural products and by types of livestock at the level of the Republic of Macedonia. The imputation method was not used in the data processing.

The data are collected through an administrative data source, provided from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy in accordance with the provisions of the Memorandum signed between the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy and the State Statistical Office. The research is based on full coverage (total number of organic producers in the Republic of North Macedonia that have approval from a control / certification body authorized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy).
