Reference metadata describe statistical concepts and methodologies used for the collection and generation of data. They provide information on data quality and, since they are strongly content-oriented, assist users in interpreting the data. Reference metadata, unlike structural metadata, can be decoupled from the data.

3.1. Data description
Organic farming is defined as a method of production where the greatest emphasis is placed on environmental protection, and the production avoids or greatly reduces the use of synthetic chemical inputs, such as fertilizers, pesticides, additives and medical products. Organic production includes livestock production, and the production of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and their use in animal feed is also prohibited. Organic farming differs from other methods of agricultural production in the application of regulated standards (production rules), mandatory control schemes and a specific marking scheme. Organic statistics collect data on: - Number of organic operators such as producers (agricultural holdings, aquaculture production units), processors, importers, exporters and other operators (wholesalers, retailers, etc.) - Organic crop area under conversion and fully converted - Organic crop production from fully converted area - Number of organic livestock - Volume of organic products of animal origin - Volume of organic aquaculture production - Number of operators processing products issued from organic farming (based on NACE classification)......and etc.
From 2020 onwards as well the data on organic production have also been enriched with data on yields.
Agricultural holdings that dispose of agricultural land under conversion or have already received a certificate of organic production from the relevant national certification bodies.
3.4. Statistical concepts and definitions
Farming is considered to be organic if it complies with 'Council Regulation (EC) No 834/2007 of 28 June 2007 on organic production and labelling of organic products and repealing Regulation (EEC) No 2092/91'.
Organic farming differs from other agricultural production methods in the application of regulated standards (production rules), compulsory control schemes and a specific labelling scheme.

All users have equal access to statistics at the same time: this means that publication dates are announced in advance and no user has access to official statistics before they are published. The statistics are published in the Makstat database on the website of the State Statistical Office.
The use of microdata by external users is possible only for research purposes and is done in accordance with the Law on State Statistics (Article 41, Article 42 and Article 43). Access to anonymised microdata is defined by an internal procedure of the State Statistical Office "Access to anonymised microdata for scientific research purposes" (https://www.stat.gov.mk/ZaNas_en.aspx?id=22).
10.5. Dissemination format - other
Time series of annual data: from 2013 have been sent to Eurostat via eDAMIS.At the request of users, data are also prepared in a form according to their needs.
10.5.1. Metadata - consultations
AC2. - Number of views of the metadata <2.
10.6. Documentation on methodology
The area defined comprises main areas: Utilised agricultural area excluding kitchen, arable land, permanent grassland and permanent crops.
The data from the organic production survey are used by agricultural policy makers, the business community, agroeconomists, agronomists, farmers, organic producers, the non-governmental sector and other organizations.
12.2. Relevance - User Satisfaction
Starting from 2009, the State Statistical Office conducts a User Satisfaction Survey every three years.
12.3. Completeness
Data are available from 2013 onwards. The SSO ensures around 80% of the indicators which are required by the Commission Regulation (EC) No. 834/2007.
12.3.1. Data completeness - rate
Number of data sent to Eurostat = (5 data sets * 1 year) = 5. Number of data to be sent to Eurostat = (5 data sets * 1 year) = 5. R1. - Completeness of data in Eurostat = (5/5 sets * 100) = 100%.

15.1. Comparability - geographical
There is a geographical comparability of nationally disseminated data. In terms of geographical comparability with other European countries, comparability is also provided because the data are collected in accordance with European regulations.
15.1.1. Asymmetry for mirror flow statistics - coefficient
Not applicable.
15.2. Comparability - over time
Since 2013 onwards according to NACE Rev.2 and there is no interruption of the time series. The length of the comparable time series is 7 reference periods.
15.2.1. Length of comparable time series
CC2. - Length of comparable time series = 7 reference periods.
15.3. Coherence - cross domain
Comparison with data from other data sources should be performed with caution. This is because the organic data set is based on administrative data, usually cover all production units certified and under conversion to organic at country level.
15.3.1. Coherence - sub annual and annual statistics
Not applicable.
15.3.2. Coherence - National Accounts
Not applicable.
15.4. Coherence - internal
Internal data coherence is ensured, the data is controlled and analyzed in the production process. Comparison with data from other data sources should be performed with caution. This is because the organic data set is based on administrative data, usually cover all production units certified and under conversion to organic at country level.
There are no data collection costs or burden on reporting units as they are downloaded directly (electronically) from an administrative source.
The data are collected through an administrative data source, provided from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy in accordance with the provisions of the Memorandum signed between the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy and the State Statistical Office. The research is based on full coverage (total number of organic producers in the Republic of North Macedonia that have approval from a control / certification body authorized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy).
18.2. Frequency of data collection
Annually
18.3. Data collection
Data on organic agricultural production are collected from an administrative source. The data are obtained by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy in electronic format.
18.4. Data validation
Data validation is performed in accordance with the defined control criteria. Initial data validation is performed when obtaining the database of organic agricultural producers. Validation rules defined by Eurostat have also been applied. The data are compared and analyzed before their publication, on an aggregate level with the data published on the website of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy.
18.5. Data compilation
The aggregated data are obtained by summarizing the individual data by types of agricultural products and by types of livestock at the level of the Republic of Macedonia. The imputation method was not used in the data processing.
18.5.1. Imputation - rate
