3.1. Data description

Capacity:

Data on the capacity of accommodation establishments (the number of establishments, bedrooms, bed places and places for tents and caravans) are obtained from statistical survey in collective accommodation establishments serving tourism. The survey is based on the use of the Register of collective accommodation establishments; results are then retrospectively used for its update. The survey covers all collective establishments which offer accommodation for tourists in the given year. Published data is the sum of submitted/filled questionnaires and imputed data for those accommodation establishments that failed to report. In these cases, information on capacity from the register of accommodation establishments is being used. The register is continually updated using the results of the survey and administrative sources available. Since 2008 capacity data have been included on the questionnaire on guests at collective accommodation establishments and stand-alone capacity questionnaire cease to exist.

Occupancy:

Data on guests at collective tourist accommodation establishments are based on a regular sample survey organized by the CZSO. Until 2002 (including) the collective accommodation establishments were included in the survey on the basis of a random 30% selection from the Register of accommodation establishments. A monthly obligation to report was set for the respondents and results were published quarterly. Since 2003 the survey covers all collective establishments. The survey is divided into a monthly survey, which covers selected units (hotels) and quarterly survey covering the rest of the collective accommodation establishments. Data on guests is the sum of processed data from submitted reports/questionnaires and imputed data of accommodation establishments that failed to report.

11. Quality management Top
11.1. Quality assurance

11.2. Quality management - assessment
11.2.1 Main strengths

Capacity: Overall data quality of capacity data can be assessed as satisfactory. Register of Collective Accommodation Establishments is a basic tool for capacity statistics together with data collection and its quality in terms of completeness and accuracy is key factor for quality information. There is no reporting duty to national authorities in Czech Republic for newly established collective accommodation establishments.

Occupancy: Overall data quality of occupancy data can be assessed as satisfactory. Data quality depends on the Register of Collective Accommodation Establishments which is a basic tool for occupancy statistics together with data collection and its quality in terms of completeness and accuracy is key factor for quality information.

11.2.2 Main weaknesses

Capacity: There is no reporting duty to national authorities in Czech Republic for newly established collective accommodation establishments. Due to this fact there are possibly blanks and missing information about new establishments in the Register. The other problem is high non-response in some categories of accommodation establishments and therefore outdated information about capacity.

Occupancy: There is no reporting duty to national authorities in Czech Republic for newly established collective accommodation establishments. Due to this fact there are possibly blanks and missing information about new establishments in the Register. The other problem is high non-response in some categories of accommodation establishments and imputation methods of good quality play an important role especially when it comes to detailed breakdown of data.

11.2.3 Quality improvements compared with previous reference year

No major improvements. They were not needed.

12. Relevance Top

13. Accuracy Top
13.1. Accuracy - overall

There is no exhaustive and up to date administrative source of accommodation establishments.

Estimated undercoverage and overcoverage of population frame is less than 1% of target population.

Unit nonresponse: NACE 55.1 = 28%, NACE 55.2 = 25%, NACE 55.3 = 16%

Item nonresponse almost zero

Despite the aforementioned issues an overall accuracy of data on capacity can be considered as very high because of a good system of checking the results and contacting respondent when there are any inconsistencies.
