They provide information on data quality and, since they are strongly content-oriented, assist users in interpreting the data. Reference metadata, unlike structural metadata, can be decoupled from the data.
The statistics describe manufacturers' sales of goods measured in terms of volume and value by detailed types of goods. In addition to this, sales are distributed by industries (NACE groups).

Errors are corrected when they are found. Users are informed of methodological and other changes which may lead to revisions. Smaller revisions and revisions of preliminary data are not announced. The same revision policy is applied both to data released nationally and to data transmitted to Eurostat.

Data sent to Eurostat is generally not revised as it is a compilation of monthly data that has been published each month and revised if needed in the following 1-2 months nationally and thus long before data is sent to Eurostat.
