Data collection on the residence permits (RESPER) statistics contains statistical information based on the principles stated in the Union legislation on migration Regulation (EC) No 862/2007 as amended by the Regulation (EU) 2020/851 and the Commission Regulation (EU) No 216/2010 implementing the categories of reasons for residence permits.

The access to the IS ECU is granted only by authority of Bureau of Border and Foreign Police exclusively.
Legal provisions regarding the data protection and protection of personal information are under following legislation: Act nr. 18/2018 on the protection of personal data and on the amendment and supplementation of certain laws.
7.2. Confidentiality - data treatment
Each data put into the IS ECU by authorized inserter (contributor) are logged, as so every change in data is logged as well. Data protection and protection of personal information of the persons in the system is implemented according the provisions of european legislation:

Information and data are regularly (daily) entered into IS ECU by police officers of police unit of BBFP (Users responsible for input). It's always the police unit, which carries out the case of legal migration (so they know all relevant information about the case). The data are entered into IS ECU either manually (filling of predefined items – personal information, information about the case) or electronically (taking a picture, taking of fingerprints. Information entered into the IS ECU are available immediately for police officers of the BBFP at all three levels.
We do not have special software related to the quality control mechanism. All quality control of such data is provided by our staff at strategic level regularly in the time of data provision - analysis of the reports from our common evidence system for residence permits (IS ECU). In the case of the errors (wrong inserted data to the IS ECU), those errors are sent to the basic units in order to correct the data (for instance, wrong citizenship, wrong purpose of the resident permit etc.).

1. General aspects
The statistics collected under the Regulation 862/2007 are widely used in official publications and by a wide range of users at national, European and International level.
Main users of RESPER statistics at national level
Concepts, definitions and classifications of European statistics on migration are not used at the national level. At the national level, the concepts used arise from national legislation and current needs of practice. Administrative data sources in all of these cases are the same (IS ECU), but the definitions, scope and disaggregation of the European statistics, national statistics are different.
Main users of RESPER statistics at European and International level
The main user of RESPER statistics is Eurostat. The statistics also provide an input to the EMN studies and reports that address specific issues of current policy importance.
2. RESPER data publication at national level
Presentation of the RESPER statistics published at national level
We do not publish European statistics; however, they are sent to other users on request, for example for the processing needs of European migration network (EMN) studies etc.
Except of that we publish our own national statistics on legal migration in our country. In the case of BBFP, there are processed annually and semi-annual basic reports on legal migration of foreigners and are published on the website of the Ministry of Interior (URL link: Minv website reports-2005-2015). The accompanying definitions are matter of course. Other statistics are processed for internal service purposes in the framework of the Ministry of Interior and are available on the Intranet site of BBFP (monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, annual, cumulative, etc.). These statistics are also provided to other entities on request (public authorities, intergovernmental institutions, legal persons and individuals).
Differences between the data provided to Eurostat and the data published at national level (Comparability of figures)
Concepts, definitions and classifications of European statistics on migration are not used at the national level. At the national level, the concepts used arise from national legislation and current needs of practice. Other and different terms and definitions are used for the purposes of statistics required by internal or external bodies in Slovakia. Administrative data sources in all of these cases are the same (IS ECU), but the definitions, scope and disaggregation of the European statistics and national statistics are different.

The IS ECU has reporting limits, which consist in the capacities and resources for the new implementation of requests for new reports towards the supplier of the IS ECU.
