One of the following definitions is used by a country when explaining the statistical concepts:
Usually resident population means all persons having their usual residence in a Member State at the reference time; for more information see the Article 2 of Regulation (EU) 1260/2013.
Legal residence population is composed of those persons who are entitled to be settled in the country at the reference date, either by holding the national citizenship or by other authorization issued by national authorities.
Registered residence population is composed of those persons who are listed on one or more registers owned by national authorities at the reference date. Each registered person shall be counted only once.

18.3. Data collection
The State Statistics Committee conducts a population census once in 10 years. Urban and rural civil registry bureaus of the Ministry of Justice and local passport and registration offices submit 1-VVADQ (public registry of civil status acts) official statistical reports for birth and death data, and the data concerning the arrivals and departures for permanent residency, respectively, to local statistics authorities and, upon primary assessment by the latter, to the State Statistics Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan. It is also collected, through network access, from the registration information system of the Ministry of Justice.
18.4. Data validation
To check data completeness and series, all software solutions employed by the State Statistics Committee have a logical supervisor function. Upon entering into the database, the corresponding data are subjected to verification. The validation, based on specifically designed check tables, is done by the staff of the Demographic Statistics Department. Consequently, local statistics authorities are informed of any detected case of inconsistency with the online database, with the explanations collected from respondents, to make relevant amendments before the end of the reporting period.

Data on population size is compiled to produce the following statistics, such as: 1) mid-year population by age groups and sex by urban and rural distribution; 2) age composition (distribution) of the population; 3) population growth; 4) population change; 5) sex ratio (number of females per 1,000 men); 6) gross reproduction rate; 7) net reproduction rate; 8) total fertility rate; 9) life expectancy at birth; 10) rate of natural increase (natural fertility rate); 11) distribution of women and men getting married by age groups; 12) divorce rate by age groups, etc.
Data on the number of births is compiled to produce the following statistics, such as: 1) the number of live births by the age of mother; 2) age-specific birth rate; 3) the number of live births by birth order; 4) the number of live births by marital status of mother, etc.
Mortality data is compiled to produce the following statistics, such as: 1) total deaths by age groups and sex; 2) total deaths among working-age population; 3) mortality rates; 4) maternal mortality; 5) total deaths of children under five years of age (child mortality), etc.
Marriage data is compiled to produce the following statistics, such as: 1) the (annual) number of marriages per 1,000 people; 2) mean age of marriage; 3) total marriages by age groups of grooms and brides, etc.
Data on the number of divorces is compiled to produce the following statistics, such as: 1) the number of divorces per 1,000 population (crude divorce rate); 2) divorce rate by age of marriage, per age group, etc.
