Reference metadata describe statistical concepts and methodologies used for the collection and generation of data. They provide information on data quality and, since they are strongly content-oriented, assist users in interpreting the data. Reference metadata, unlike structural metadata, can be decoupled from the data.

3.1. Data description
Annual data on eggs for consumption are collected with the December survey on the livestock number directly from agricultural holdings.
Within the 2014 grant the possibility of using available administrative data sources to collect required information on production of eggs for consumption was assessed.
In Slovenia the reference day for collecting data on number of hens is 1st December. We estimate the data do not differ essentially so data on 1st December in case of Slovenia are used for reference day 31st December.
Administrative sources are currently not used. We use data on December's Livestock survey.
3.1.1. The main data source of the information
Eggs producers
3.2. Classification system
The data on eggs for consumption are collected and published only for whole country, Slovenia (NUTS 1).
Data refers on hens population and hens eggs.
Data are at the NUTS 1 level (Country) and relates to poultry and egg producers classified under NACE codes 01.47.1 (01.47.11) and 01.47.2 (01.47.21).

17.1. Data revision - policy
REVISION OF THE DATA
PUBLISHING OF PRELIMINARY AND FINAL DATA
Data revision is planned. Due to the needs of users for timely information, data are published that meet the criteria of the quality of official statistical data but do not meet the quality that can be met with complete coverage. Data are revised when recent, completed and more quality data respectively can significantly contribute to the quality of data-based decision-making and when due to publication deadlines determined by the European legislation less accurate data are published on the basis of incomplete coverage.
Provisional data on livestock production for the previous year are published in May of the current year and final data by the end of August of the current year.
The criteria for selection in an individual stratum are based on the size classes of the number of animals.
In selecting the sample for poultry, it is taken into account whether producers are intensive poultry producers or not.
Intensive poultry producers are selected with certainty.
All other units selected in the sample are asked about the number of poultry and production of hen’s eggs.
18.1.1. Description of data collection process
Information about the number of laying hens and annual production of hen’s eggs and the purpose of hen’s eggs hatched on the agricultural holding.
For small reporting units only the number of laying hens is collected while the production of eggs is estimated with the help of average egg yield of the size class of laying hens.

Poultry number in Slovenia is rather low, therefore also there is low number of laying hens and productions of eggs and Slovenia is under treshold of 3 milions of laying hens.
