3.1. Data description

Poland collects statistical data on production of eggs for human consumption and for hatching.

These data are collected two times a year (1-st June and 1-st December) as a part of livestock and animal production survey covering survey on poultry by species and by breading trends.

Surveys are carried out on agricultural farms of legal persons (survey covering all population) and on the sample of individual farms (sample survey).

3.6.1.1. COVERAGE

Surveys are carried on the population above the threshold of 100 heads of poultry in total. In this way, the threshold 350 and more laying hens is covered. In 2018 farms with at least 350 and more laying hens had 85,8% of a  total laying hens population.

The  number of laying hens on 31 December is estimated based on a number of hens on 1 December. The data is collected in survey as of 1-st December.

5.3. Additional comments on the reference period/date used

Data are collected two times a year (1-st June and 1-st December) as a part of livestock and animal production survey.
The sample surveys collect data on:
• Number of laying hens kept for production of eggs for consumption as of 1-st June (1-st December)
• Number of laying hens kept for production of eggs for hatching as of 1-st June (1-st December)

• number of chicken eggs in total (for consumption and for hatching) obtained during three days just before survey in June (December)
• number of chicken eggs for consumption obtained during three days just before survey in June (December)

In agricultural farms  of legal person and in individual farms with at least 350 hens and more the data is collected for whole production of eggs for consumption during the half of the year.

13. Accuracy Top
13.1. Accuracy - overall

The main source of errors was the frame (the lack of updated data for all agricultural holdings), non-response errors, and sampling errors (which can be analysed on the basis of relative standard errors).

Non-response errors were minimised by correction of design weights (re-weighting).

Other common source of errors (respondents and interviewers) were minimised by appropriate methodological and organizational activities.

Sampling errors were estimated for main survey variables using classical formulas for stratified random sampling, with design weights corrected by algorithm taking into account: non-response and outliers detection.

Relative standard error for variable "laying hens" was approximately equal 2%.

18.1. Source data

Statistical survey organised two times a year (1-st June and 1-st December) as a part of livestock and animal production survey covering survey on poultry by species and by breading trends.

Surveys are carried out on agricultural farms of legal persons (survey covering all population) and on the sample of individual farms (sample survey).

18.1.1. Description of data collection process

Statistical data on production of chicken eggs in total obtained during I and II semester of year and during whole reference year are collected for whole population of agricultural farms of legal persons.

Allocation/redistribution of total production of chicken eggs for estimating production of chicken eggs for consumption and for hatching are conducted by using data on production of laying hens population kept for production of eggs for consumption and for hatching.

18.5. Data compilation

.

18.5.1. Data compilation process - data weighting

Production of eggs for consumption per laying hen obtained during I and II semester of the year is calculated on the base of survey results. Next, the annual production of eggs for consumption per laying hens is calculated and then, the whole production of eggs for consumption obtained from all laying hens (on the base of the average annual number of eggs) during whole reference year is calculated.

Average annual eggs production per 1 hen is calculated on the base on the formula: annual eggs production from all hens divided the average annual number of hens. The average annual number of hens it is the arithmetic mean of the number of hens which had been calculated from three successive surveys: from December of the previous year, from June and from December of the current year.
The  number of laying hens on 31 Decebber is estimated based on a number of hens on 1 December. The data is collected in survey as of 1-st December.
All estimations are made according to the recommendations of Euostat, taking into account the data on hatching.

19. Comment Top

Poland collects statistical data on production of eggs for human consumption and for hatching.

These data are collected two times a year (1-st June and 1-st December) as a part of livestock and animal production survey covering survey on poultry by species and by breading trends.

The data is collected using electronic questionnaires. Three different methods of data collection are used: CAII,CATI and CAPI.

There are three levels of validation: (1)Validation during data collection, when electronic questionnaires is filled (logical error, range errors). (2) Completed questionnaires are submitted to the special application where the individual data are checked again (logical and accounting checking). There is the opportunity to obtain a report of errors and errors can be corrected. (3) The corrected file is forwarded to the appropriate database, where validation exercises could be conducted on an aggregate set of data (coherence, balance and any other analysis).

The process of data collection is supported by the management application. It is possible to check if the particular questionnaire is filled completely and we can check indicate an error if there is need we can contact with respondent.  Daily reports of survey are also prepared in this system and the entire process of data collection is monitored.

The electronic questionnaire also provides explanations to the questions, error handling at different levels, validations, the dictionary of the territorial division of the country, the definitions of the variables.

Trainings: The training is organized at two-stages. Once a year Statistical office organizes trainings of all hotline agents (permanent staff of statistical office). Next they conduct training for interviewers in Regional Statistical Offices.
