3.1. Data description
The egg production statistics contain monthly and annually data on the quantity of class A and B eggs that have been packed.
The statistics are based on data collected quarterly from packing plants. Class A and B eggs are presented by production method: eggs from enriched cages, barn eggs, free range eggs and organic eggs
3.1.1. The main data source of the information
Packing centres3.2. Classification system
Whole country (NUTS: FI1 + FI2).
Classification of quantity of eggs:
A-class total
- A-class eggs from enriched cages
- A-class barn eggs
- A-class free range eggs
- A-class organic egss
B-class total
- B-class eggs from enriched cages
- B-class barn eggs
- B-class free range eggs
- B-class organic egss
3.3. Coverage - sector
Data collection cover almost all approved packing plants. Outside data collection can be some small packing plants. Finnish Food Authority maintain register about approved packing plants.
Defining coverage according to NACE rev 2 isn't possible, because NACE classification don't include activity "egg packing". So there isn't information which operators (companies and farms) are engaged in egg packing.
Statistics don't include on-farm egg usage.
3.4. Statistical concepts and definitions
The egg production statistics contain monthly and annually data on the quantity of class A and B eggs that have been packed for human consumption.

No3.4.8. If not, specify the definition used
Statistics don't include on-farm egg usage like direct sales of eggs and use in food management. Quantity of on-farm egg usage was very low, so we have stopped data collection from farms in order to decrease response burden and cost.
3.4.9. Ungraded Eggs provided separately
No3.4.10. Additional comments on statistical concepts and definitions
Egg volume includes both eggs that the plant has produced itself and those purchased directly from farms.
