Reference metadata describe statistical concepts and methodologies used for the collection and generation of data. They provide information on data quality and, since they are strongly content-oriented, assist users in interpreting the data. Reference metadata, unlike structural metadata, can be decoupled from the data.
The statistics give information on the total production of eggs for consumption in Denmark. The number of eggs are expressed in million pieces. This is the total number of eggs received by eggs packing centers from egg produceres plus ungraded eggs sold and used on agricultral holdings. The production of eggs, which are not delivered to eggs packing centers are estimated.

The total number of eggs received by eggs packing centers is from a registrer from The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration (DVFA), which is part of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries. All eggs packing centers have to report the total number of eggs received and the type of eggs to the DVFA.
The number of eggs which not are delivered to eggs packing centers are estimated by an expect. It is eggs sold directly to consumers or used for own consumption at farm.

Statistics Denmark follows the principles in the Code of Practice for European Statistics (CoP) and uses the Quality Assurance Framework of the European Statistical System (QAF) for the implementation of the principles.
This involves continuous decentralized and central control of products and processes based on documentation following international standards.
The central quality assurance function reports to the Working Group on Quality.
Reports include suggestions for improvement that are assessed, decided and subsequently implemented.
The inventory of eggs weighed in on the egg packing stations is good, as well as the price and value of the different egg types.
There is minimal uncertainty about the figures, as these are published as quarterly and in million. kg.
The largest uncertainty is the estimated consumption of egg producers and, in particular, sales directly to consumers.
This uncertainty transfers something to the calculation of the total production of eggs both quantity and value, so data is shown both without and with own consumption and direct sales to consumers.

12.1.1. Data collected for national purposes
Yes. The data are used for the national EAA.
12.2. Relevance - User Satisfaction
Not applicable (for the 2022 metadata collection)
12.3. Completeness
The statistics comply with the requirements laid down in the regulations.
13.1. Accuracy - overall
Data on the eggs weighed in the packing centres has a high quality both regarding the type of egg and the amount of these, as it is mandatory for egg producers to report this data.
The same applies to the number of hatching eggs, as this information is statutory to register and report to Food Enforcement.
The estimation of eggs for own consumption and sales directly to consumers is estimated - and there is some uncertainty as the average number of hens and thus eggs is unknown.
This consumption is set at 8 million. and are listed in the table so that users can choose to use the numbers without this estimate.
The estimate may be too high, as 10 per cent. of the total production is a lot.
There is uncertainty in estimating the consumption of eggs from the producers and the sale of eggs directly to consumers, as we do not know this uncertainty, the figure is entered in the statistics bank.

Figures for the quarter are published approx. 1½ month after the end of the quarter.
The statistics are normally published without delay in relation to the advertised, but there have been delays in recent years due to problems with data.

15.1. Comparability - geographical
Most European countries have independent statistics on egg production.
Organic statistics on egg products in the European region are not published, but prices for eggs are included in the price statistics and the value of total egg production is included in the national agricultural accounts included in the national accounts of all European countries.
15.2. Comparability - over time
The statistics about eggs have a long history, and since the 1900s it has been possible to compare time series over the production of eggs.
There has been an improvement in the statistics in 1932, where total production was divided into sales for egg packers and producer consumption and sales directly to consumers.
Since 1955 the statistics have been prepared on the same basis as now. In 1997, the production of eggs was divided into production: Free-range eggs, Organic Eggs, Barn Egg, Scraper Egg, Long time series are possible.
15.3. Coherence - cross domain
Some statistics are published by Danish Agriculture & Food Council.
15.4. Coherence - internal
Not applicable (for the 2022 metadata collection)
There statistics are based on administrative data.
There is thus no direct response burden, in relation to the compilation of these statistics.
Statistics Denmark revises published figures in accordance with the Revision Policy for Statistics Denmark.
The common procedures and principles of the Revision Policy are for some statistics supplemented by a specific revision practice.
