Statistics on the production of eggs for consumption are collected in frame of the annual survey on poultry production. Figures represent the number of laying hens and the number of eggs for consumption produced in agricultural holdings keeping at least 5,000 laying hens.

Eggs for consumption are fresh eggs of fowls of the species Gallus Gallus intended for human consumption (i.e. not intended for incubation), in shell. They are fit for direct human consumption or for preparation of egg products.

Laying hens are fowls of domestic species Gallus gallus having reached laying maturity and kept for production of eggs for consumption. Pullets as well as fowls producing eggs intended for incubation are not considered here as laying hens.

Eggs producer is an agricultural holding with laying hens producing eggs for consumption during the reference period for economic purpose.

Agricultural holding - a single unit, both technically and economically, which has single management and which undertakes economic activities within the agricultural sector.

The entire territory of Czechia

Agricultural holdings with at least 5,000 hens are surveyed as a census (100% coverage) although the poultry production survey is, as a whole, a sample survey. Units with at least 5,000 head of poultry are involved into a special stratum. CV is not relevant.

Data on egg production and the number of hens are collected within the annual sample survey on poultry production in agricultural holdings keeping poultry.

Statistics geographically cover entire country without regional structuring.

Statistics on egg production and on the number of laying hens in agricultural holdings with at least 5,000 laying hens are fully comparable in the time series since 2014.
