DAIRYMAN

Summary: DAIRYMAN (an acronym for dairy management), supported through the INTERREG IVB programme, is helping to strengthen rural communities in the regions of North West Europe (NWE) where dairy farming is a main economic activity and a vital form of land use. 14 partners in 10 NWE regions covering 7 countries are cooperating.

Overall purpose: The main aim is to improve regional prosperity through better resource utilization on dairy farms and stakeholder cooperation. It is strengthening rural communities by improving farm resource management in a profitable way. New ways of working and innovations are being jointly demonstrated within NWE networks of commercial pilot farms and Knowledge Transfer Centre’s.

Results and recommendations: Results are disseminated through three work packages: regional; commercial dairy pilot farms; and knowledge transfer centres. A range of decision support tools are being made available on these subject areas: animal nutrition; energy; environment; farm economics; farm systems; fertilisation; grassland management; greenhouse gasses; herd management; and sustainability.
