Description of Area
Main Themes of Strategy:
The Programme is split into two main areas: 1. Creating Sustainable Communities Activities under this theme will encourage local groups to initiate and develop community led services to meet gaps in provision, improve skills within the community, make improvements to local facilities to enhance their viability and promote existing services and facilities to ensure their sustainability. Examples of projects delivered under this theme could include: • Community run shops; • Community renewable energy projects; • Improvements to Village Hall facilities; • Rural transport services; • Remote access to ICT training; • Support to community groups to develop their capacity; • Training young people in traditional rural skills. 2. Enhancing Local Heritage and Environment Activities under this theme will enable local groups to conserve, interpret and promote the natural and cultural heritage of their area providing a strong sense of place and community and encouraging visitors into the area. Examples of projects delivered under this theme could include: • Improving and managing access to the natural environment through the provision of new footpaths, trails and cycle paths; • Interpretation and promotion of the local environment and heritage features; • Environmental upgrading to local parks and village approaches; • Renovation of important historical buildings; • Environmental awareness actions; • Heritage studies. All projects will be expected to promote and contribute to the principles and objectives of environmental sustainability, equal opportunities and innovation. Projects will be encouraged which are of a pilot nature and test new ways of working or services delivery.
