Local context in which

Mt. Canigó is a sacred mountain in the western Pyrenees. Rising to 2784 meters like a beacon over the Mediterranean Sea, it is a symbol for the whole region. To protect and promote it, the towns and villages of its piedmont area have been joining together in a federation over the last few decades, in order to co-operate locally. Several years of in-depth work to develop and improve the quality of the tourism offer, as well as to manage tourist distribution out of environmental concern for this important natural site, have led to the recent awarding of the “Grand Site de France” label to the massif. Moreover, part of the massif lies within in the Pyrénées Catalanes regional nature park and “Land of Art and History” classification.
Project objectives, target group and activities:

Get to know one another and share experiences - Analysing situations peculiar to the regions - Sharing experiences on sustainable management of tourist numbers - Sharing experiences on developing tourism in the region 2.
