Community Action Programme to Combat
Social Exclusion 2002-2006
General information
When the Lisbon European Council decided in March 2000 to launch a
new open method of co-ordination on social inclusion based on common objectives
and national action plans, it also called for a Commission's initiative to
encourage co-operation between Member States in this field. The Commission
presented its proposal for a Community Action programme in June 2000.
The programme was officially adopted by the Parliament on
15th November and by the Council on 22nd November 2001. It starts
on 1st of January 2002. Its budget amounts to 75 M over
5 years (2002-2006). Most of the actions planned for 2002 will be publicised
and launched still in the first semester of the year.
