Rationale

Text available in

The employment rate of the persons belonging to sexual or gender minorities is lower than the average rate in Finland. They are being discriminated at work and in recruitment situations.1-10% of the population belong to the minority groups in question depending on the survey or definition. The proposal for the Work Discrimation Directive of the EU Commission states that 27% of the people participating in the surveys in Great Britain and 48% of those in Sweden had experienced discrimination based on sexual orientation in the workplace. Unemployment was also seen as a serious problem. There is no corresponding research material in Finland, as for example states the Finnish Equal Operational Programme approved by the Finnish government.

Objective

Objectives:
The objective of the project is to disseminate information and raise awareness about the hbt-persons (homo, bi and trans) in working life by means of research and training. The project seeks means to develop working communities so that discrimination based on sexual or gender orientation would not make employment or coping at work more difficult. To support this goal the project will choose a pilot industry where it will develop practices and administrative policy programmes in order to prevent the discrimation of the target group. The acquired results can be later utilised also in other industries. The pilot cases will include educational establishments.
The immediate results will include methods through which it will be possible to improve the position of the sexual and gender minorities in working life. These are for example:
-a common policy for workplaces in order to promote the acceptance of diverse sexual and gender orientation
-a specific educational programme which applies the above policy designed for the municipal educational system

Sexual and Gender Minorities at Work

Rationale

Text available in

-kohdennettu sovellusohjelma kunnallista koululaitosta varten
