Launch of the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion in Romania

The opening ceremony of the European Year 2010 in Romania will be held in Bucharest, at the House of Parliament, on the 19th of February.

The event will gather representatives of the European Commission, the Romanian Government officials and representatives of important international organisations in the social field, such as the World Bank, UNICEF, IOM, Council of Europe, UNDP and others. Moreover, the Ministry of Labour, Family and Social Protection, organiser of the event, has also invited representatives of other Romanian ministries with responsibilities in the social field, relevant public institutions from the local level and more than 150 active NGOs from all around Romania.


The agenda of the launching conference will include high level opening speeches and the first session will present the national programmes for combating poverty and social disparities from different angles: education, labour market, health and regional development and social cohesion. The second session will bring into attention successful projects made for vulnerable groups by NGOs and the third one will present life stories of people who have experienced poverty and/or social exclusion.


The participants will also have the chance to admire the exhibitions of the art works made by vulnerable persons and consult interesting informative materials on topics related to poverty, social exclusion and inclusion.
