Supporting healthy bee populations

PoshBee stands for “pan-European assessment, monitoring, and mitigation of stressors on the health of bees”.

This multi-actor Horizon 2020 project aims to support healthy bee populations, sustainable beekeeping and pollination across Europe by integrating the knowledge and experience of academics, beekeepers and farmers, it will provide a pan-European quantification of the exposure hazard of chemicals to managed and wild bees, determine how chemicals affect bee health, and disseminate information on monitoring tools, novel screening protocols, and practice- and policy-relevant research.  

“PoshBee is making great progress - after a massive targeted field experiment in 2019 - towards understanding the exposure of wild and managed bees to stressors like agrochemicals, disease, and nutritional deficits in agricultural landscapes across Europe. Despite the Covid pandemic, in 2020 we’ve been working hard in the lab and the field to work towards a better future for Europe’s bees.”  says Mark JF Brown, project coordinator. 

National beekeeping organisations from 8 countries across the EU are involved in the project – all mentioned on the PoshBee website. Mark continues: “They played a crucial role in the targeted field experiment, helping us to design protocols for and manage honey bee hives in the field. They are also key to helping us make sure our practice advice and tools are adapted to be of immediate value to honeybee keepers.”
