NEWBIE - New entrants into farming

“Sustaining a cohort of new entrants into agriculture is crucial to the vitality, resilience and competitiveness of the agricultural sector and rural regions in Europe” says Andries Visser from Horizon 2020 thematic network Newbie.

New entrants face a number of different barriers when developing new, sustainable farming businesses. These include access to land and to financing, information and support is not always easy to find and breaking into established marketing channels can also be challenging.

The NEWBIE network will facilitate the development and dissemination of new business models, including new entry models, to the full range of new entrants – from successors to complete newcomers to the agricultural sector.

The NEWBIE network offers a unique platform by bringing together new entrants, successors, advisers, researchers, important regional and national actors and relevant stakeholders in national networks.

The project will establish discussion circles between new entrants and relevant stakeholders, create an online video library of inspiring stories from new entrants, and will provide opportunities for bilateral exchange of new farmers across Europe.
