Objective of the project (native language):

Voor de continuïteit en het imago van de melkveehouderijsector is van belang om problematiek rondom dierengezondheid, kalversterfte en hoge emissie uitstoot aan te pakken. Het project doet dit door de ontwikkeling en het praktijktrijp maken van (kalver) huisvesting met perspectief – de modulaire smartbox. Gebruik wordt gemaakt van geïntegreerde hardware- en softwareontwikkeling, waarbij intelligentie, besluitvorming en actie, wordt toegevoegd aan een modulair uitbreidbaar kalverhuisvestingsoplossing.

Objective of the project (in English):

For the continuity and image of the dairy farming sector it is important to address issues related to animal health, calf mortality and high emissions. The project does this through the development and making ready for (calf) housing with perspective - the modular smartbox. Use is made of integrated hardware and software development, whereby intelligence, decision making and action are added to a modular expandable calf housing solution.

Er wordt een modulaire smartbox ontwikkeld dat bestaat uit geavanceerde hardware en software:
1. Weegcellen en sensoren. Deze maken het mogelijk om het gewicht van de kalveren elke 10 seconden te monitoren. Daarnaast kan de voerinname en mate van activiteit nauwkeurig gemonitord worden.
2. Met behulp van diverse sensoren worden deze data geregistreerd en gekoppeld aan een datamanagementsysteem. De data wordt overzichtelijk weergegeven op een dashboard.
3. Er wordt een optimaal microklimaat gerealiseerd. De modulaire smartbox wordt voorzien van een beweegbare dakconstructie die weersafhankelijk aangestuurd wordt, een ventilatiesysteem en temperatuurregeling waardoor het binnenklimaat

A modular smartbox is being developed that consists of advanced hardware and software:
1. Weighing cells and sensors. These make it possible to monitor the weight of the calves every 10 seconds. In addition, the feed intake and level of activity can be accurately monitored.
2. With the help of various sensors, this data is recorded and linked to a data management system. The data is clearly displayed on a dashboard.
3. An optimum microclimate is achieved. The modular smartbox is equipped with a movable roof construction that is controlled weather-dependent, a ventilation system and temperature control so that the indoor climate can be adjusted to size.
4. Low-emission run-off functionality.
