UN Special Envoy for Climate Ambition and Solutions Founder, Bloomberg LP and Bloomberg Philanthropies
Michael R. Bloomberg

Mike Bloomberg is an entrepreneur and three-term mayor of New York City whose innovations in business, government, and philanthropy have made him a pioneering leader on critical issues facing America and the world – including climate change.

He serves as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Climate Ambition and Solutions, and as WHO Ambassador for Noncommunicable Diseases and Injuries.

Elected mayor just weeks after the attacks of September 11, 2001, Bloomberg led New York City’s resurgence – spearheading the rebuilding of Lower Manhattan, cutting carbon emissions, increasing New Yorkers’ life expectancy by three years, and spurring record job growth.

His foundation, Bloomberg Philanthropies, works on initiatives in public health, education, the environment, government innovation, and the arts. Over his lifetime, Bloomberg has given $12.7 billion to philanthropy.

Bloomberg serves as chair of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures, which provides recommendations to help guide companies’ disclosures of climate-related risks and opportunities, and formed the Climate Finance Leadership Initiative with other influential private sector leaders to accelerate investments in climate solutions. He is also the co-chair of the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero, a global coalition of leading financial institutions committed to decarbonizing the world’s economy.

Bloomberg graduated from Johns Hopkins University and Harvard Business School.
