Melinda Mills

Melinda Mills is a Professor of Demography and Sociology, and the Director of the Leverhulme Centre for Demographic Science at the University of Oxford and Nuffield College. She previously worked in the Netherlands and Germany and holds a PhD in Demography and MA/BA in Sociology.

Melinda is a member of the High-Level Group convened by Commissioner Gentiloni to reflect on the challenges of the European economy post COVID; the UK Science Advisory Group for Emergencies; the Royal Society’s Science in Emergency Tasking COVID-19; the Supervisory Board of the Dutch Science Council; and the Executive Council of UK Research and Innovation, Economic and Social Research.

Her research spans demography, labour markets, life course, statistics and genetics. She has published seven books and over 100 articles across multiple scientific disciplines. She holds an ERC Advanced Grant, previously ERC Consolidator Grant and is founder of the company DNA4Science. She was awarded the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) medal in 2018 and the Clifford C. Clogg Award for mid-career achievement, Population Association of America in 2020.
