Stefan Ingves

Governor of Sveriges Riksbank, Sweden’s central bank.

Stefan Ingves was appointed Chairman of the Executive Board and Governor of the Riksbank on 1 January 2006 for a term of six years. Mr. Ingves is also a member of the ECB General Council and a member of the Board of Directors of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). He is Sweden’s governor in the International Monetary Fund.

Previously, Mr. Ingves was Director of the Monetary and Financial Systems Department at the International Monetary Fund, Deputy Governor of the Riksbank and General Director of the Swedish Bank Support Authority. Prior to that he was Under-Secretary and Head of the Financial Markets Department at the Ministry of Finance.

Before entering public service, Mr. Ingves was Assistant Vice President, Central Finance and Fund Management Division at Svenska Handelsbanken from 1984 to 1986 and President of the SOFE, Sweden’s Options and Futures Exchange in 1987.

Stefan Ingves holds a PhD in economics from the Stockholm School of Economics.
