AI Forum 2018 in Finland

The AI FORUM 2018 is a ministerial conference on artificial intelligence bringing together political leaders, policy makers, experts, entrepreneurs and industry to discuss how Europe can remain competitive and ensure that the technology benefits everyone. The event has been initiated by the Minister of Economic Affairs of Finland, Mr Mika Lintilä and is co-hosted by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment of Finland and the European Commission.

The Vice President for Jobs, Growth, Investment and Competitiveness Jyrki Katainen and the European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society Mariya Gabriel will speak. Other participants include Mika Lintilä, the Finnish Minister of Economic Affairs, Robert Gentz, Co-CEO of Zalando, and Sari Baldauf, Member of the Board of Directors, Nokia and AG Siemens. The global race for AI, EU tech unicorns, algorithmic transparency, reskilling and much more will be discussed.

The AI Forum 2018 contributes to the European Union’s approach and coordinated action plan on AI that is currently being defined. It builds on the recent Communication on Artificial Intelligence for Europe, the European AI Alliance and members of the recently appointed High-Level Expert Group on AI will also be present.

Europe aims to remain at the forefront of AI deployment and to ensure that we remain competitive in the fiercely competitive world of AI. The AI FORUM 2018 was created because of the economic and societal benefits expected from AI. The technology has the potential to create between €3 trillion and €5 trillion in value annually. By 2030, it is estimated AI will contribute up to €13.3 trillion to the global economy, and boost local economies by up to 30%.
