No, replacing national digital identities is not the aim of the revised Regulation. Member States will continue to provide digital identities.

Instead, the European Digital Identity framework extends the functionalities and usability of national eIDs by means of a personal digital wallet. The obligation on Member States to offer EU Digital Identity Wallets will ensure that every person and business in the EU has access to a means of digital identification.

Every citizen will have the choice whether to use the European Digital Identity wallet or a national eID system.
