Working group on APIs and Blockchain

During the Informal Cooperation Network's Workshop #4 held on  participants showed interest in exploring future developments that could be added into the eDelivery framework by leveraging on API and Blockchain related initiatives already in place across the Member States.

This page aims to collect further feedback on missing capabilities/requirements for eDelivery and to gather initial information on already existing initiatives in the Member States that could serve as a basis to understand the possible upcoming developments to be undertaken by CEF eDelivery.

All members of the Informal Cooperation Network for eDelivery are invited to participate and provide their input.

Background information

APIs are a foundational component of modern digital architectures, impacting every sector of the global economy. In the public sector, APIs are a key enabler to accelerate the digital evolution of governments and its agencies.

The European Commission' JRC has conducted the two-year study “Digital Government APIs. The road to added value Open API-driven services (APIs4DGov)”. The study investigates onto two main questions: (1) Why governments should invest in the adoption of API technologies and, if yes, (2) How they could adopt them.

The APIs4DGov study — digital government APIs: the road to value-added open API-driven services study on web API standards (the final study will be available after April 2020) is available here:

The Agency for Digitisation from the Danish Ministry of Finance did a proposal for the ISA² Coordination group for a common API building block available here:
