Archive. Closed call for speakers (ECFIN/A/2009/009). DG ECFIN's 6th Annual Research Conference (ARC 2009) - "Crisis and reform"

ECFIN's Research Directorate is inviting researchers to present papers at its annual Research Conference to be held in Brussels 15-16 October 2009.


Three interrelated key issues will be covered:

  • Session A: The political economy of reform
  • Session B: The design of financial systems
  • Session C: Revisiting the economic paradigm

Conference format

The conference will start with the ARC 2009 Opening Lecture by Willem Buiter, continue with three main sessions and end with a panel discussion.

Keynote speakers

  • Allan Drazen (Session A),
  • Charles Goodhart (Session B),
  • Axel Leijonhufvud (Session C).

In addition to invited speakers, each of the sessions is also open for other speakers presenting papers (15-30 minutes) that will be selected from those submitted in response to this call for speakers.

Submission information

DG ECFIN invites researchers to submit their empirical, policy-oriented, and/or theoretical research papers, which they would like to present as speakers at the conference.

How to submit?

Interested researchers should send a complete paper in PDF format together with a CV and list of publications to ECFIN-ARC2009-SUBMISSIONS@ec.europa.eu
Papers sent to other mailboxes or to Commission staff cannot be accepted.

Unless otherwise stated by authors, the submitting researcher will be identified as the potential speaker for the ARC 2009 (one speaker per submission).

Deadline for submission: 10 May 2009 (22:00, Brussels time)

Selection process

The Research Directorate in DG ECFIN will set up a selection committee to evaluate the submissions and select the speakers.

Selection criteria for speakers

  • the paper should demonstrate work of high quality and of relevance to the conference themes;
  • the paper should have the potential to form the basis of a fruitful exchange among the participants at the conference
  • the standing of the authors as demonstrated by academic excellence;
  • a track record of published research.


Decisions

The selection procedure is expected to be completed by end of June 2009 at the latest. Candidates will be informed by e-mail about acceptance or non-acceptance.

Fee

According to the conditions of the service contractpdf(32 kB) Choose translations of the previous link  , a speaker's fee of 1,000€ will be paid for the presentation at the ARC 2009, irrespective of whether the paper is authored or co-authored.

Travel and accommodation costs

The Commission intends to cover speakers' travel and accommodation (hotel and breakfast), including a daily allowance per day of attendance, and to offer lunch and dinner while attending the conference in Brussels.

Publication

In addition, speakers are required to make the paper presented at the conference available for publication in one of DG ECFIN's working paper series published on DG ECFIN's website. Authors will retain the copyright.
