CONSUMER POLICY

Mission to China

23/06/2014

Between 24 and 26 June, European Consumer policy Commissioner Neven Mimica is visiting China with the aim to further strengthen the cooperation with the EU in the area of product safety and consumer protection. This is his first visit to China as the European Union's Commissioner for Consumer policy.

The visit follows a series of meetings with Chinese authorities which took place in Brussels on 18 and 19 June, including a trilateral EU-US-China summit on product safety.

Within his visit, Commissioner Mimica will meet Mr Shuping ZHI, General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ), Minister Zhang Yong from the China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA), Mr Zhongfu Wang, President of the China Consumers Association and Mr Mao Zhang from the State Administration for Industry and Commerce (SAIC).

The main message of Commissioner Mimica is that product safety is of key importance for consumers and businesses alike. Within his mission, he will reiterate EU's commitment to work together with Chinese authorities to achieve better product safety, but also consumer protection, cosmetics and trade cooperation.
