Corruption: A call to experts

30 September 2011

A better exchange of knowledge is needed about how to fight corruption. To tackle this, the European Commission is setting up an advisory network of experts from all around Europe. On Friday, the call for applications was officially launched, directed to researchers in academia, representatives from law enforcement, civil society and elsewhere.

The advisory network will build upon work already done by actors like the OECD, the Council of Europe and Transparency International.

"Not only is corruption immensely costly in economic terms, but above all, it weakens democracy. A lot of good research is being done, but Europe needs a better exchange of ideas. And the outside expertise that this network will provide will be incredibly helpful in the work of the Commission", commented Commissioner Malmström.
